Steps to make Makkini Dal with Puri and Pakwan:
  1. Firstly wash and soak both Dals for 1 hour and then in a cooker put dals, 1/2 tsp haldi and salt, bring it for 2 whistles and keep it aside.
  2. For Puri, put in big vessel/thal, put aata, pepper powder, salt and oil, knead the dough and keep it covered with muslin cloth for few minutes. In Kadai add oil when heated put it in a medium flame and fry each of the puri from both sides, till it's done.
  3. Lastly garnish dals by putting spices (dhania powder, Red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp amchur powder, Jeera powder and kali mirch powder)and give tadkaa of oil.
  4. It's ready to serve.

After the puries cool to room temperature they should be crisp. Serve Pakwan with hot dal with drizzle of tamarind chutney. Dal Pakwan is, chana dal served with crisp fried Indian bread(Pakwan). It is usually taken as breakfast but you can have this as a snack, as a brunch, as a lunch or as a light dinner It is important that you make fork impressions on the pakwan so that it won't puff up like Puri and will remain flat and crisp. Dal pakwan is a recipe where super crispy maida(all purpose flour) poori is served with tempered chana dal and tamarind chutney.
